Elected deputy of the PDT affirms that it is necessary to return to discuss structuring policies; she was among the 3 most voted in the state
The elected federal deputy Duda Salabert (PDT-MG), 41 years old, hopes that the debate in the Legislature in 2023 will be more pragmatic and about the country’s real problems than ideological. Elected with more than 208 thousand votes, she is the 1st trans woman elected in Minas Gerais for a position in the National Congress.
“We need to go back to discussing structuring policies for the country. That’s my commitment. If I wanted to stick to 100% ideological discourse, I would stick to social movements, which play a key role in driving change in the country. But politics presupposes the construction of structuring policies for the well-being of the people“, says the elected deputy.
Salabert was the most voted federal deputy in the state and ranked 3rd in the general ranking, behind Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), the most voted in the country, and André Janones (Avant-MG).
The new congresswoman will start her term in a Congress that is more conservative and more to the right than in 2018. Salabert says, however, that physiologism must prevail. Physiology is when a politician acts in exchange for favors, favors and benefits to private interests, to the detriment of the common good.
“Congress has always been a conservative and straight-laced space. Most elected deputies are marked by physiologism. That is, by personal interests overcoming collective interests“, says the elected deputy.
Watch the interview of elected deputy Duda Salabert (PDT-MG) at Power 360held on Wednesday (6.Oct.2022):
In the interview, the elected deputy was asked about prejudice and how she deals with the attacks she receives for being transsexual. She claims that this was not an obstacle in the City Council of Belo Horizonte (MG), where she has been a councilor since 2020, when she was elected as the most voted in history.
“In this scenario, the most conservative Chamber was also elected. This was not an obstacle for us to develop our agenda. I got projects approved unanimously” says the elected congresswoman.
Regarding a possible Lula (PT) government, Salabert says that PT will be able to count on her for agendas that involve social, environmental and climate justice.
“My commitment is to the people and workers. I raise support for projects based on social, environmental and climate justice. For these projects count on me. […] We don’t forget that the vice is Alckmin“, he says.
A great defender of sustainability, the elected deputy says that her main confrontation will be the ruralist caucus.
“My biggest confrontation will be with the ruralist caucus, which presents itself as a caucus that is somehow irresponsible for endorsing a policy of dismantling environmental legislation“says Salabert.
In addition to sustainability and the environment, the elected deputy also states that her main goals will be education and the defense of human rights.
