An explosion at the Saratoga hotel in Havana, the capital of Cuba, killed 22 people, according to Cuban state television. The country’s president Miguel Díaz-Canel, announced that among the dead were a pregnant woman and a child.
The Cuban Health Ministry told the state agency, gram, that 64 people are injured, including 15 children. Next to the luxury building was a school that had to be vacated.

Second the Cuban state agency, Granma, Miguel Díaz wants to rebuild every building in “shortest time possible”. “All the necessary elements are being gathered to know the amount of materials, the amount we have, the ones we have to look for and provide all this service in the shortest possible time”he said.
The hotel was closed due to the pandemic and was getting ready to reopen next Tuesday (May 10, 2022). Located in a tourist area of the city, 4 floors of the building were destroyed.
The Saratoga is on the list of forbidden accommodations by the US government since 2020.
