Ilaria Fontana, undersecretary of state at the ministry of ecological transition in the Draghi government
Dear bills, Fontana: “If companies were to raise prices, the impact on the consumer would be inevitable”
Bills skyrocketing. In Italy, as in all of Europe, i energy price increases are exhausting numerous families already economically damaged by pandemic from COVID-19. Heard from Business, the undersecretary of state at the ministry of ecological transition, Ilaria Fontana, tried to clarify the situation by explaining what are the strategies that the Government wants to implement to face the fort rise in bills.
Honorable, how do you get out of the energy price crisis? What is the government doing to get out of it, with what practices?
The contrast to the energy poverty is among the objectives present in the2030 Agenda ofUN, And it is not a case. There are many factors that regulate the crisis we are experiencing, such as international markets, the post-pandemic question and the cyclical fluctuations of prices always existed. It is therefore necessary to structure policies of gas supply able to positively reflect on the price and produce power at lower costs. Yesterday in control room and in cabinet as M5S we asked for a budget shift especially to make the measures put in place structural, it is not enough to cover only the first quarter of 2022
What will the consequences be for families? And which ones for companies?
If companies were to raise their prices by virtue of the rising costs per energy, the impact on the consumer would be inevitable. For these reasons, companies must also be protected from those factors external to the company. There energy transition it must be as inclusive as possible and to be so it is necessary to start from this, always protecting vulnerable people in conditions of social and economic hardship
The reactions of the countries are not the same and they undertake different strategies, why does Italy choose a certain type of path, what are the differences with other European countries?
Each country has its own energy resources, energy policies and long-term goals. Furthermore, the state of health of a country must be taken into consideration, since choices that may apparently seem more profitable economically can, on the contrary, make the people who live there more fragile.
When will these strategies be introduced?
With yesterday’s advice we have taken a small step, but we must necessarily think about the future. Our mission now is to transition to renewables and theirs storage, initiating autonomy processes with green sources and at the same time greater energy efficiency: we have already demonstrated this in the past and we can continue to do so by encouraging and helping families and businesses to reduce energy consumption and to become more and more “prosumer”, Both producers and consumers.
