The club confirmed the sad news.
Ice hockey player Jan Dalgic has died at the age of 25.
The sad news was announced on Saturday by Dalgic’s club Hanover Indians.
“We have a sad duty to announce that our friend and teammate Jan Dalgic fell asleep early in the morning. The Indians mourn the loss of a special person and are shocked by the injustice of taking away the life of such a young person, who had really just begun,” the club’s Instagram post read.
Dalgic was diagnosed with a brain tumor last January on his 25th birthday, reports Saksalaislehti Bild.
Hanoverian club had previously organized a fundraiser for Dalgic’s medical expenses. According to Bild, the collection had generated 125,000 euros, and among those who supported Dalgic were, for example, German NHL stars Leon Draisaitl and Philipp Grubauer.
The operation gave Dalgic hope, but the disease returned.
Goalkeeper Dalgic had played in his native Germany’s second league and youth national teams during his career.
He managed to play 15 matches in the country’s third-tier Oberliga last season, the last one on January 3.
