De Jonge: Most people over 60 can get a booster shot this month
The majority of people over 60 can still receive a booster shot this year, Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health, CDA) said late on Wednesday evening in a debate with the House of Representatives. It concerns people who had their last corona vaccination at least six months ago.
GGDs will administer 200,000 booster shots this week, 350,000 next week and 700,000 a week after that with the help of soldiers, medical students, vets, former nurses and former doctors. At least eighty large locations will be set up for this, De Jonge promised. He will come Friday with the details of his plan to accelerate the booster campaign.

In the debate, the cabinet received a lot of criticism about the slow booster campaign. This started later in the Netherlands and for the time being is also slower than in other European countries. Chairman Jaap van Dissel of the Outbreak Management Team said on Wednesday prior to the parliamentary debate about the corona policy that fewer people would have been hospitalized if they had previously received a booster shot against the corona virus.
Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte told the House that he is “also disappointed” that the Netherlands started taking booster shots later than other countries, but that does not mean, according to him, that “the cabinet has been snoring”. According to the ANP news agency, he pointed out that the Health Council issued the advice on 2 November to start using boosters and that scaling up cannot be arranged within two or three days.
