DBZ animator has a problem with Super Hero | Atomix

Although we still have no news related to the return of Dragon Ball Super to the small screen, this same year the film by superhero, which promises to take the action of the series to a new level, this thanks to the complete integration of CG. However, there are people who are against this decision, among them, one of the original animators of dragon ball Y Dragon Ball Z.

On this occasion, Masaki Sato, who worked as director and main animator on the original anime of dragon ball Y Dragon Ball Zmentioned that he is interested in the history of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, but the CG animation doesn’t completely convince him. Specifically, he talked about Vegeta’s shadows and nose as a detail that annoys him. This was what he commented:

“Because I am not involved in this movie, I can talk about this. I hate shading. I always try not to shade noses, it just seems silly to me. The hand-drawn animation… is a key selling point. I’m not too keen on full CG animation, but if the plot is interesting, I think that’s fine! The only way to know for sure is to watch the movie.”

Although talking about Vegeta’s shadows and nose could be seen as just a whim, these comments make it clear that, at least for Sato, there will be several details that cannot be specifiedand miss a bit of the feel that the original anime conveyed.

On related topics, fans want to see individual movies of Yamcha and other characters. Similarly, this is how the public reacted to Gohan’s new design for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Editor’s Note:

I can see where Sato’s concern is coming from. Working all your life in a traditional style, adapting new styles of animation can be difficult. However, modern studies have shown that 3D and CG can work well, hopefully this will be the case with the new Dragon Ball movie.
