On November 15 and 16, David Otero He thrilled his audience at his concerts in Barcelona (Sala Apolo) and Madrid (La Sala del Wizink), where he performed his best-known songs from his solo stage and as composer and guitarist of El Canto del Loco. And just a week later, after announcing new dates that will take him to fourteen other cities starting in January, the Madrid musician has shared some reflections on the abrupt end of the band.
“There were people around who weren’t cool at all,” Otero explains to the group about his surroundings, which contributed to his relationship with Dani Martinhis cousin and the group’s singer, also changed over time. «There came a time when Dani and I are very different, and we began to see life completely differently, music and life. He wants to start composing with other people and start making music with other people, and I want to do other things too and get out of there a little… because everything that happened was very aggressive. “It was very violent,” he said in a podcast called Human Animals.
Otero continues his explanation until he reaches the exact moment in which the group broke up: «I considered… I said, I need to be in this world that is so aggressive, so violent, with so much demand for such… and we both didn’t feel like it, to neither of them. I met Dani and said: ‘What do we do? Do you feel…?’, ‘No’, ‘Me neither’, and that’s it. And although initially both took it as a temporary pause, Otero admits that “it was going to be a while, but then in the end it was impossible.” When that happened, Otero says he decided not to try to restart the band and prioritize his “mental health” because “there are many things beyond money, fame and success.”
When El Canto del Loco disbanded, Otero launched his solo career under the stage name El Pescao, releasing several albums to good reviews but without the same level of massive success that he had had with the group. He has now just released his sixth studio album, ‘Natural Intelligence’, and in October he was nominated for the prestigious Los40 Music Awards 2024 in the categories of ‘Best Live Artist or Group’ and ‘Best Los40 Summer Live Artist’. Toledo will be the next stop on his tour, on January 31, which will be followed by Albacete (February 8), Alicante (February 14), Murcia (February 15), Cádiz (February 22), Seville (February 23 ), Salamanca (March 7), Zamora (March 8), Málaga (March 13), Granada (March 14), Valladolid (March 22), León (March 27), Santiago de Compostela (March 29) and Zaragoza (April 3).
For his part, Dani Martín is about to publish his new album, ‘The last day of our lives’a launch that was scheduled for November 5, but was delayed due to the DANA tragedy and will finally take place on November 29. In order to support the rehabilitation of the area and help the affected families, Dani Martín has donated 100,000 euros to the Red Cross.
