The Brazilian’s defense, headed by lawyer Cristóbal Martell, had asked the Court to allow the footballer to have house arrest, but the request was denied on the grounds that he could escape the country by having the financial means to do so.
Alves remains in custody at the Brians 2 penitentiary, in Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona), in provisional detention and without the possibility of paying bail.
Alves’ request to his lawyer
The Spanish newspaper ABC revealed this Thursday that the player made a request to Martell, who visited him in prison this Wednesday, where he explained that he should remain detained until the trial is carried out.
“(Alves) has asked that we row and work to prove his innocence,” said Martell, who insists on the Brazilian’s defense, considering that the relationship he had with the victim was consensual and not the product of rape. However, the version changes that Alves has had entangle the panorama of him.
Before that, Martell’s law office issued a statement, which was sent to various media and in which he insisted that his client is not guilty of what happened on December 31.
“Daniel Alves Da Silva continues to be as innocent as he was before the ruling was issued,” the statement said. “The resolution is asymmetric. It uses the statements of charges offered by the police report as evidence and, on the other hand, the defense elements offered by the defense differ for the Oral Trial ”, he adds.
