By now the goal of Jeddah is really close, but the second week of the first Dakar’s Danilo Petrucci it was really complicated. Even though he is now out of the race after retiring from the second stage, the former MotoGP rider is very keen to finish the race, but to do so he will have to grit his teeth.
In the 11th stage, which included a 346 km timed loop around Bisha, the KTM rider from Terni was the victim of a bad accident, in which he feared he might have injured his right shoulder. However, this did not prevent him from completing the special, among other things with a decent 17th time.
Once he reached the bivouac, “Petrux” recounted his fall, but explained that it was probably the most complicated stage of this adventure, between the roadbook that stopped working and the particularly treacherous dunes.
“It was very hard, one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life. After four kilometers I immediately got lost along with some other riders. There were many dunes, but really very soft, in which the bike sank, and I’ve never seen anything like it before, “said Danilo.
“Then we ended up in the middle of a sandstorm and it was really difficult to find the way forward, because you couldn’t see anything. After refueling, even though the sand was always very soft, it was doing a little better,” he said. added.
But it only went better until the moment of the fall, which Petrucci explained as follows: “In a dry river I hit a log hidden in the sand and I had a bad accident. I was worried about my right shoulder, but I continued even though I felt a lot of pain, both in the shoulder and in the neck “.
“On top of that, my roadbook wasn’t working for the last 50km, so it was really hard to get to the end,” he concluded.
