First images of the Dakar Sandrider
Dacia today unveiled the Sandrider, a new vehicle specially designed for rally raids, making use of the sporting expertise of the Renault Group and counting on the teams of Prodrive, a British company specializing in motorsport. This innovatively designed prototype ingeniously exploits all the possibilities offered by the regulations of the Ultimate T1+ category, focuses on agility and lightness and precisely responds to the essential needs of pilots and co-pilots.
The latter have been actively involved since the genesis of Sandrider. Before the many planned test sessions and from the early stages of the work, they contributed by transmitting their rich experience to the designers and engineers, especially with very concrete design sessions using virtual reality. After today's reveal, Sandrider will begin a long series of fine-tuning tests in various countries. It will contest its first race taking part in the 2024 Morocco Rally, an event of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) which will take place from 5 to 11 October.
The Dacia Sandrider team will be able to count on three crews. The forty-nine year old French rally driver Sébastien Loeb he won the World Rally Championship 9 consecutive times, from 2004 to 2012. He is the driver with the most titles in motorsport and is often considered the greatest rally driver of all time. Sébastien Loeb, who has been participating in the Dakar since 2016, will race with Fabian Lurquin as co-driver.
The rally driver Cristina Gutierrez Herreo it is a reference in the world of tout-terrain rallies. At just 32 years old, she already has eight participations in the Dakar under her belt, between 2017 and 2024. Cristina won the Rally-Raid World Cup in the T3 category in 2021. In January 2024, she was the second woman to have won a category (Challenger) of the Dakar, after Jutta Kleinschmidt who had obtained a victory in the general classification. Cristina will have Pablo Moreno Huete as co-pilot.
Nasser Al-Attiyah he is a five-time winner of the Tout-Terrain Rally World Cup as well as a two-time winner of the Rally-Raid World Championship. A true legend of the Dakar, he won the legendary race five times. For each crew, the pilot will choose his own co-pilot. Nasser will share the news in due course.
