It is called DSPACE and develops innovative digital services to optimize treatments and contribute to improving the quality of life in the cardiovascular and oncology areas. It is the new digital innovation hub of Daiichi Sankyo Europe which, together with various technological partners across Europe, aims to develop innovative digital solutions to enhance healthcare, in order to improve the treatment path for patients, operators and the healthcare system as a whole. The company communicated this in a note.
“We created DSPACE as a digital innovation hub at Daiichi Sankyo’s European headquarters in Munich, Germany, with the aim of creating value for the company and supporting its evolution from a pharmaceutical company to a leading healthcare company – he explains Anna-Maria Heidinger, Head of DSPACE – We provide digital solutions to help healthcare professionals make the most appropriate decisions for patients, ultimately improving the treatment path, beyond the drugs that the company makes available “. Taking advantage of Daiichi Sankyo’s experience, resources and research, DSPACE – the note reports – considers three areas of interest: new digital technologies to identify people at risk early; 360 degree support to the patient through the offering of innovative services; help healthcare professionals make the best decisions together with their patients.
Numerous projects are already active in various European countries – the note details – such as the improvement of the early diagnosis of atrial fibrillation in Great Britain, the training of specialists through virtual reality in Spain. In Great Britain, in fact, Daiichi Sankyo collaborates with East Cornwall Primary Care Network for the remote identification and diagnosis of atrial fibrillation. The aim is to improve detection of atrial fibrillation, as it is estimated that at least 270,000 people over the age of 65 are living with undiagnosed atrial fibrillation in the UK. Thanks to the use of digital technologies that allow remote evaluation, it is possible to shorten diagnosis times, allowing quicker access to treatment and therefore the prevention of associated diseases, such as stroke.
Another DSPACE project uses Extended Reality (XR) for medical training in Spain, through the Doctopedia XR platform. This allows healthcare workers to train and improve their practical skills in a safe and controlled environment. Together with the Immersive Oasis start-up, new learning methodologies have already been implemented. Extended reality technology allows the reproduction of various clinical scenarios; for example, healthcare workers can ‘enter’ a human heart or interpret an electrocardiogram, while a virtual heart replicates the movements recorded by the Ecg device. Innovation in healthcare requires creative thinking and a strong will to achieve it – concludes the note – Daiichi Sankyo not only offers over 120 years of experience in drug development, but through DSPACE is ready to enrich the healthcare ecosystem with innovative technological solutions in the field of cardiology and oncology. “Digital innovation is a team sport and requires the collaboration of different stakeholders. This is why Daiichi Sankyo – comments Heidinger – invites anyone who has developed a new technology or solution for better healthcare to join forces and collaborate with DSPACE “.
