Customers who do not have an account with PostNL or an e-mail address will receive a paper note in the mail from 1 July if they have missed a package. Recently, the postal company announced that non-home messages will only be sent by mail or app. This caused a lot of unrest among the elderly, says Anbo for the elderly.
PostNL announced that from 1 July it will only inform recipients of parcels digitally if the deliverer is standing in front of a closed door. Customers must have an account with PostNL or an email address. There they receive a message where the missed package has gone.
Ouderenbond Anbo then received many calls from concerned members who are not digitally skilled enough and feared they would not be able to find out where their package has gone. The elderly association called PostNL about this. The company says that the non-home notes continue to fall in the mailbox if the recipient does not have a PostNL account or e-mail address. For example, if a private individual sends a package to another private individual or if something has been ordered by telephone.
Medical shipments
The non-home note is also left with registered mail and medical shipments. The note states at which PostNL parcel point or which neighbor the parcel was delivered. Customers whose telephone number PostNL has can receive an SMS with information about their package, according to Anbo.
The union is happy with this promise, but finds it ‘appalling’ that it was initially the intention to only inform customers digitally. “The company thus excluded a group of people – not just the elderly – and that is very customer-unfriendly,” according to the Anbo. “It is also important that PostNL communicates better about this, so that the unrest is removed.”
