The provocative orientation of the exercises of the North Atlantic Alliance in the East European direction is beyond doubt, but these actions are not noticed by international organizations. This was announced on Monday, December 6, by the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Valery Semerikov to the YouTube channel Sputnik in Russian.
According to him, in the Eastern European region, NATO is building up its military groupings under a far-fetched pretext. In addition, as Semerikov pointed out, the number of exercises near the CSTO states has significantly increased.
“The provocative orientation of the exercises and other activities of the North Atlantic Alliance is beyond doubt, but for some reason it remains unnoticed by international organizations,” the deputy secretary general said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the United States and the European Union (EU) are exercising unprecedented and comprehensive pressure on Belarus, as well as on the Russian Federation. At the same time, countries use various kinds of sanctions, including interference in internal affairs, Semerikov specified.
Earlier that day, American political scientist Ariel Cohen noted that the West did not promise Russia not to expand NATO eastward. According to him, there have never been such papers.
On November 30, Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Witfeldt said that the new government of the country opposes the movement of NATO allies near the borders of Russia and plans to restrict them. At the same time, according to her, the presence of the US military in the area of the Norwegian-Russian border is no more than in other periods of the “post-war era.”
In October, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko warned that Moscow and Minsk would act tough because of the militarization along the western borders of the Union State. A week earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu noted the buildup of NATO’s presence at the borders of the Union State of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
