Police caught the man after he grabbed the steering wheel of a moving bus on Hämeenlinnanväylä, says the Helsinki Police Department in its press release.
The police received a report about a man causing a disturbance on Thursday evening around 18:30. According to the police’s current information, the ticket inspectors had asked the two men traveling on the bus for travel tickets in order to check them. One of the men did not agree to the request.
The ticket inspectors tried to arrest the man and check his personal information. However, the man started behaving aggressively and grabbed the steering wheel of the bus while it was moving. At the time of the incident, the bus was driving on Hämeenlinnanväylä at a speed of about 70-80 kilometers per hour, the police say.
The bus driver managed to keep the vehicle on the road. The bus was stopped on Hämeenlinnanväylä near Kannelmäki. There were about 10 passengers in the bus at the time of the incident.
The suspect continued to behave aggressively, after which another ticket inspector who was in the situation used spray and force to calm the situation, according to the police.
Police says that he has arrested the man suspected of the act. He is currently suspected of aggravated attempted assault, unlawful threat, drunk driving and resisting a law enforcement officer. The criminal charges may become more specific as the investigation progresses.
