Crimes | Two men stole an ATM from the wall of a shop, parts were found a kilometer away

ATM was stolen from the outer wall of Citymarket in Mäntsälä on the night between Thursday and Friday.

Surveillance camera recordings show how a large wheel loader with two men had driven up to the Citymarket located on Sälinkäntie in Mäntsälä. With the help of a wheel loader, the men had torn the ATM off the wall and lifted it up.

The wheel loader used in the theft had previously been stolen from Liedontie. According to the police, the incident is probably also related to a vehicle that has been towing a light trailer with a hood.

Local a man saw the remains of an ATM about a kilometer from Citymarket on a sandy field at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday. He does not want to appear in public with his name because of the criminal case.

The man said that he noticed earlier in the morning that “there were a lot of policemen in the villages and the ATM had been torn from the wall”. The machine was located outside Citymarket. According to the man, a white plate had been put in its place in the morning.

“I drove around the villages for a while after that, until I noticed policemen and the remains of an ATM in the yard of the old Hirvenkruunu. It looked as if the money had been taken from the machine,” the man tells HS.

Restaurant Hirvenkruunu was closed a few years ago after more than 50 years of operation. Now the building has been demolished.

Police has not commented on whether the thieves got money from the ATM or whether the police had themselves moved the ATM’s parts from the scene.
