Felipe's battle
There legal battle conducted by Felipe Massa to seek an unlikely re-assignment of the 2008 title – lost by the Brazilian by one point to Lewis Hamilton – is moving forward and as is known focuses on the infamous Crashgate episode in Singapore. Massa's lawyers aim to obtain one cancellation of that eventtainted by the voluntary accident of Piquet Jr. orchestrated by the leaders of what was the Renault team.
A personal friend of Massa, the former track engineer, also expressed his opinion on the issue Rob Smedley, who worked at Ferrari with the Brazilian throughout his long Ferrari career. The 50-year-old British man spoke as a guest on the site's radio podcast The Racerecalled how already at the time, even without the existence of concrete evidence, there was a feeling within the paddock that the victory achieved by Alonso was not 'clear'.
Something strange
“I was watching the scene and I thought: 'strange'. Then you watch the replays and by the third replay you think: 'Ok, now I understand what happened' – commented Smedley, implying that he immediately understood the voluntariness of Piquet Jr.'s action – it was simple enough to understand. Then the ramifications, the repercussions, how you get justice and everything else [è un altro discorso]. I don't think anyone had any doubtsespecially within my inner circle, within Ferrari, among the guys I spoke to in the paddock“, added the Englishman.
Finally, Smedley highlighted how Massa is sincerely convinced that he wants to pursue this appeal obtain justice: “It's no secret that Felipe is like a little brother to me. This is something he feels strongly and passionately about and everyone should have the personal right to pursue what they believe is right. This is the case of Felipe“, he concluded.
