In Belgium, Coyote has identified 23,000 dangerous bends on our roads. Users will receive a warning, asking them to adjust their speed. It even provides a target speed for the dangerous turn in question. The recommendations are based on data Coyote collected anonymously from the service’s 1.6 million subscribers, based on a variety of behaviors, including sudden braking and lane changes.
Especially in Wallonia
The database of warnings for dangerous bends includes 13,000 “spots” in Wallonia. This makes sense, given the topography of the south of the country, with more relief. The AWSR (Walloon Road Safety Agency) collects data from Coyote to better map the dangerous points on the Walloon road network. Even if this does not necessarily mean a new speed limit or adjustment of the signage.
Especially since the bends mentioned by Coyote are generally poorly signposted. A dangerous bend with a speed limit, appropriate signage and good legibility of the road will not necessarily lead to a warning. According to Coyote’s data, at least 86% of its customers follow the recommendations. However, other drivers are not warned, especially those using other real-time traffic information services.
