Pharmaceutical research for medicines against Covid-19 has evolved day by day. The latest shows that a drug developed by the American pharmaceutical company Merck, known in Brazil as MSD, against Covid-19, molnupiravir, reduced the risk of hospitalization for the disease by more than 65%. That’s what preliminary data released by an Indian drugmaker last weekend shows.
According to the g1, the results are from phase 3 tests carried out in India, with a version of molnupiravir produced by the pharmaceutical company, Hetero. The data has not yet been validated by other scientists or published in a journal.

The drug was tested in 1,218 infected patients, who showed an improvement in their clinical condition and had negative results in PCR-type tests within five days of receiving the drug. No patients died. The pharmacist did not say whether any patients had been vaccinated.
“We are excited to see that, in this clinical trial in over 1,200 patients in India, generic molnupiravir significantly reduced hospitalizations compared to standard care alone in patients with mild Covid-19,” said Eliav Barr, senior vice president, Merck Research Laboratories in the United States in a press release.
Molnupiravir was approved in December to treat adult patients with a blood oxygen saturation of 93% who are at high risk of disease progression in India.
In countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan, molnupiravir has already been authorized for emergency use. In Brazil, the drug is not available and awaits analysis by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) since November.
