Newspapers are the witnesses of everything that happens under the umbrella of today. Its covers, followed by each of its pages, reflect the events that directly affect environments and people, creating an archive that favors the memory of a territory based on ink and paper, of stories told with objectivity and professional rigor as premises to facilitate the right to information.
The newspaper LA VERDAD has been working for good journalism for 120 years, providing knowledge about everything that happens in the Region of Murcia, as a faithful translator of events that has managed to be a benchmark for its inhabitants. In its more than a century of history, it has adapted to changes at the same speed that society has, being at the foot of the news to reflect, day by day, everything that should be known. Now celebrate this event with the ‘Expo 120 years’ that recalls some of the most outstanding covers of all this time, in an exhibition that looks to the past at a time when the newspaper itself continues to demonstrate its ability to be present in the future of the Region of Murcia.
The Museum of the Enclave of the Wall (Mudem) of Molina de Segura has been the place chosen to begin its journey through more than twenty covers that reflect some of the acts that have marked the history of the Region, the country and the area international. In eleven panels located from the hall to the Nonagonal Room of this historic building, visitors will also be able to remember some of the most relevant events of this municipality, such as the inauguration of the Villa de Molina Theater, which “kept alive that love for the theater” , as stated during the inauguration last Wednesday by the director of LA VERDAD, Alberto Aguirre de Cárcer; or the B-Side, “one of the great independent music festivals”, without forgetting the literary field for being “a place of great writers and artists”, as is the case of Manuel Moyano, who also stars in some of the pages that are in this exhibition.
“At Molina de Segura we are doing the first act of a series of events in which we want to not only look back, but look to the future,” said Aguirre, who took the opportunity to praise “a municipality that can teach many lessons,” making allusion to its openness to citizen participation, transparency, mobility and its innovative spirit and entrepreneurship.
“This exhibition is an interesting typographic journey through the history of our region at the stroke of a headline, which pays tribute to the informative work that the professionals of the head have carried out,” said the mayor of Molina de Segura, for his part. Eliseo García, who pointed out as a “privilege” to be able to show this exhibition in a space that is the core of the municipality’s past.
The ‘Expo 120 years’ will be available at Mudem until March 5. After this, he will begin a trip through municipalities in the Region of Murcia to continue connecting with history from an informative point of view. In it you can remember historical moments at the national level such as the attempted coup of 1981; Regional events such as the Lorca earthquake, the arrival of the AVE to Murcia, the approval of the Transfer, the fire at the Regional Assembly and the opening of the University of Murcia, including the first surviving front page of the newspaper from September 25, 1903.
