Several countries around the world on Saturday asked their diplomats and nationals to leave Ukraine, over what Washington says is an imminent Russian attack on the former Soviet republic.
And the United States asked all non-essential employees of its embassy in Kiev, to leave.
The memo reiterates an earlier call by US President Joe Biden for Americans to leave Ukraine immediately.
On Friday, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan asked American citizens to leave Ukraine immediately.
In turn, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said today, Saturday, that Moscow decided to “rationalize” its diplomatic staff in Ukraine.
In a statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Kuwaitis in Ukraine to leave the country for their own safety.
The ministry also called on those wishing to travel to Ukraine to postpone their travel for the time being.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement, that Jordan urged its nationals, today, Saturday, to leave Ukraine in light of the current developments.
He also called on them to postpone any plans to visit Ukraine.
Today, the German Foreign Ministry recommended that German nationals whose presence is not considered “essential” to leave Ukraine “in the short term” because “a military conflict is not excluded.”
The ministry stated, on its website, that “the tension between Russia and Ukraine has worsened in recent days, due to the presence of large Russian military units and their movement near the Ukrainian border,” warning in its recommendations to travelers that it “does not rule out a military conflict.”
“If you are currently in Ukraine, check if your presence there is essential,” the ministry said. If this is not the case, leave the country in the short term.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand urged all its citizens in Ukraine to leave immediately from there.
“New Zealand does not have a diplomatic representation in Ukraine,” the ministry said in a statement. Consequently, the government’s capacity is very limited in terms of providing consular assistance to New Zealanders in Ukraine.”
For his part, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called on Australians living in Ukraine to leave the country as soon as possible, saying that the situation there is getting more and more dangerous.
“Our advice is clear,” Morrison told a news briefing. “This is a dangerous situation. You should seek to get out of Ukraine.”
So did several countries such as the Netherlands and Lithuania.
