The market for skins and speakers Of Counter Strike 2, born with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, continues to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars a year for Valve. According to a recent report, it earned Gabe Newell's company almost a billion dollars in just 2023.
Valve apparently makes money by doing little or nothing, i.e. selling keys to open chests with skins inside. In reality, Counter-Strike being free-to-play is how constant support for the game is financed.
According to CSGOCaseTraker.com, approximately 400 million cases of Counter-Strike: GO/2 were opened in 2023, for a total spend of $980 million. This is an incredible sum, for a game that remains at the top of the market despite being more than ten years old.
The report also speaks of an increase in the price of the cases during 2023 of 178%, which however did not affect sales. The most lucrative box office of the year was Dreams and Nightmares, which reportedly brought in $126.3 million. Naturally, the launch of Counter-Strike 2 increased the market for speakers, which experienced a real boom after the launch.
