THL answers public questions about the effectiveness of coronary vaccines on Tuesday at 5 p.m. HS looks at the opportunity live in this article.
Already one in three residents of the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (Hus) area may have been infected with microscopy, the chief infectious disease doctor estimates Asko Järvinen last week.
The omicron variant of coronavirus arrived in Finland at the same time as large-scale distribution of third doses of vaccine began. Many people who have been vaccinated twice may have contracted the disease, test it at home and consider when it would be a good time to get a third vaccine.

According to the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), a primary adult with coronary heart disease does not yet need a third dose of the vaccine. The general guideline for THL is that the affected disease corresponds to one dose of the vaccine, and therefore a person who has been vaccinated twice with the disease can cope with two vaccines.
“The guideline is based on studies of the immunological response. The disease produces at least as good a response as the vaccine dose, ”says the chairman of the National Vaccination Expert Group (Krar). Ville Peltola.
Krar is a working group set up by THL to prepare THL’s recommendations for corona vaccinations, among other things.
In the help is a relief that causes confusion. According to the THL, a third dose of the vaccine can be given to healthy adults with the disease if it is necessary, for example, for travel or other compelling reasons.
The background is international travel rules. From February, EU coronary vaccination certificates will only be accepted for travel nine months after the second dose of the vaccine. If you have received a second dose of the vaccine in July and contracted coronary heart disease in January, the period of validity of the corona certificate will begin to run low.

An EU corona certificate can also be obtained for up to six months of coronary heart disease, but this requires an official PCR test, which is no longer available to everyone.
Krar and THL recommend that a third coroner vaccine be given to a person with the disease only if the patient is over 12 years of age and severely immunocompromised. No recommendation has been made for other groups with the disease, as there is no medical justification for taking the third vaccine for these groups.
Helsinki and Espoo instruct that a third vaccine may be given to patients who have had the same time between the disease and the vaccine as instructed between the second and third doses. For those over 60 years of age and those at risk, the interval is 3 to 4 months after illness, for those aged 18 to 59 years for basic health, 4 to 6 months after illness.
On the other hand, the City of Helsinki states on its website that the shortest possible time between a coronavirus disease and a coronary vaccine is six weeks.
Peltola admits that the guideline between the third vaccination and the disease – from six weeks to six months – is great.
“As such, the guide makes perfect sense that the interval doesn’t have to be short, but it can be short if needed.”
Peltola sees no obstacle to applying for the vaccine as early as six weeks after the disease. However, if you do not know of a trip that will require the vaccine soon, you may want to wait longer to take the third vaccine.
“If you take the vaccine soon after the disease, it may become a little more severe, such as a fever or an enlarged lymph node. The interval of several months is more useful for the development of long-term immune protection. ”
Information The vaccination instructions for twice-vaccinated patients with coronary heart disease have not been given a reason to change the vaccination instructions for the BA.2 sub-variant, which has become more common in Finland.
“In my view, the new variant form is not significantly different from the previous self-variant. The new dose of the vaccine would not seem to be very beneficial if the omicron is already ill, ”says Peltola.

Although transmission infections have been reported in both those with a history of coronary disease and those who have taken the vaccine, the vaccines taken and the number of patients with coronary heart disease are useful in a situation where a person who has been vaccinated or has already had the disease is exposed to the virus.
“It’s good to stress that vaccines have a protective effect against a serious disease remained good. And if the virus encounters once, it elicits a response that usually relieves the new infection. ”
