In view of the dramatic corona situation in Russia, more and more hospitals are reaching their limits.
Moscow – Around 90 percent of the beds created for corona patients are occupied, said Health Minister Mikhail Muraschko on Tuesday in Moscow, according to the Interfax agency. In some regions the capacities have been increased again. Nationwide, 292,000 hospital beds would be available, six percent more than a week earlier. Every tenth patient is in serious condition. On Tuesday, the official statistics showed a new negative level: 1,106 people died with the virus within one day – more than ever since the beginning of the pandemic in spring 2020. 36,400 new infections were registered within 24 hours. Currently, more than 1.3 million people are sick in the largest country in the world with around 146 million inhabitants, said Muraschko.
According to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the equivalent of 693.9 million euros will be invested in combating the pandemic, for example in order to create more hospital beds in particularly affected regions. “The main task is to protect the lives of our citizens as well as possible,” he said. The authorities want to get the situation under control with days off. In some regions they started on Monday. In larger cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg, there are also far-reaching restrictions on public life. The Kremlin sees the low vaccination rate as the main reason for the infection situation. According to statistics, only a third of the population is fully vaccinated. (dpa)
