In Germany, the booster vaccinations against Corona are starting. The vaccines from Biontech and Moderna are inoculated – an overview of the side effects.
Kassel – since the beginning of the fourth corona wave in Germany is the topic on everyone’s lips: the booster vaccination. The booster is supposed to increase vaccination protection and finally break the ongoing pandemic wave. What is the current standing? And what vaccination reactions and side effects are there?
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of booster vaccinations has now exceeded the five million mark. The facility announced that as of Saturday (December 6th, 2021) 13 million people had received a booster vaccination. A total of 57.3 million people (68.9 percent of the population) in Germany have so far been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus – the at least of them received the booster against Corona.
Booster: Corona vaccination with Biontech and Moderna: Are you worried about vaccination reactions?
According to a report, there is a real rush in the medical practices in Lower Saxony due to the corona booster vaccinations. The deputy chairman of the Lower Saxony family doctors’ association, Jens Wagenknecht, told the Oldenburger Nordwest-Zeitung that the number of registrations had increased sixfold in some cases. He urged those willing to vaccinate to be “more relaxed”. The rush is so great that appointments can even be made into 2022.
But not all people want to have the third corona vaccination administered immediately. As with the first and second vaccination, people wishing to vaccinate occasionally have concerns about vaccination reactions or even side effects. However, there is no cause for worry lines. “The vaccination reactions are mostly mild or moderate,” says the RKI in the information sheet for the booster vaccination. “The frequency and the type of possible side effects after the booster vaccination are comparable to those after the 2nd vaccination.”
Regardless of whether a person has previously been vaccinated twice against Corona with Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna or Astrazeneca, the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommends only the mRNA vaccine from Biontech or Moderna for the booster vaccination against Corona. This also applies to cross vaccinations – for example, if Astrazeneca was administered first and Biontech for the second vaccination. Which vaccination reactions occur most frequently with the two booster vaccines?

Third corona vaccination with Biontech or Moderna: Note the right time for booster
Not only the RKI, but also the Stiko has already relieved skeptical people of the fear of severe vaccination reactions or side effects. The doctor Christian Bogdan, who has been a member of the expert group since 2011, told the news portal Northern Bavaria: “The studies available so far have shown that the third vaccination does not lead to an increase in side effects. They are in the same range as after the second vaccination. “
Bogdan appealed to be boosted against Corona. However, attention must be paid to the right time. “If the booster vaccination is administered too early, i.e. two to three months after the second vaccination, then it has more of a negative than a positive effect,” said the expert, adding: “If you boost too early, it happens not to the intended increase in the immune response. “
Stiko recommends booster vaccinations every 6 months from the last vaccine dose. “A shortening of the vaccination interval to 5 months can be considered in individual cases or if there is sufficient capacity”, so the Stiko in a communication dated November 18, 2021.
That Risk of myocarditis after mRNA vaccination seems to be higher than previously assumed, especially among adolescents and young men. (tvd) *HNA is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
