One of the symbols of Denmark and its capital went up in flames today, 16 April 2024. This morning a large fire engulfed the Old Stock Exchange building in Copenhagen. The causes of the fire, still ongoing, are not clear, while the emergency services tried to save the works of art despite the difficulties linked to the presence of scaffolding, due to the renovation phase in which the building is currently located. There were no victims.

The fire, as shown by several videos online, led to the collapse of the Dragon Spire, one of the characteristic elements that made up the structure, and part of the roof. The building, in Renaissance style, was built between 1619 and 1640 on the initiative of King Christian IV and had been undergoing renovation work since 2022. Used today as the headquarters of the Danish Chamber of Commerce, it is located in the city center near the Danish Parliament.
