Controversy in the derby: this was the goal disallowed for Savic in Real Madrid vs Atlético

The Madrid derby has left nothing to be desired in terms of emotions. Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid have played out an intense, competitive and gritty duel. One of the postcards that have generated the most reactions has been the annulment of a goal by the Colchoneros that meant a 1-1 draw.

Stefan Savic scored the tying goal, however, the VAR, in the 50th minute, decided to annul the goal after a review. Antoine Griezmann took a corner kick and the Montenegrin central defender finished with a header inside the six-yard box to beat Lunin.

However, the VAR decided to correct the decision of referee Sánchez Martínez, who had initially accepted the goal. The score was annulled because Saúl Ñíguez was allegedly out of position and would have obstructed the vision of the Ukrainian goalkeeper without touching him.

This decision has generated a lot of controversy on social networks. Some media outlets, such as Sport, described this annulment as a “scandal.”

Some X users considered that it was a refereeing error and that Savic's goal should have been valid.
