Millonarios managed to draw against Flamengo, one of the great candidates to win the Copa Libertadores, at the El Campín stadium, despite playing the last half hour with one less player.
Two players who came from the bench, Émerson Rivaldo Rodríguez and Daniel Ruiz, were in charge of putting together the 1-1 play, in the 80th minute, which made the blue fans explode at the El Campín stadium.
The night seemed to be coming for Millonarios when the Argentine referee Darío Herrera awarded a penalty in favor of the visitor, for a foul by Larry Vásquez on the Uruguayan Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
In the same action, Herrera considered that Vásquez forgot about the ball dispute and for this reason he showed the red card to the Millonarios player. On the blue bench they complained that the infraction was outside the area.
The attacker Pedro took the ball and charged hard and into the center of the goal, while the goalkeeper Álvaro Montero dived to his right, with which Flamengo took the lead in El Campín.
The referee analysts who saw the action agreed with Herrera's performance, both in terms of the maximum penalty sanction and the red card to Vásquez.
This was what the VAR said at the time of Larry Vásquez's expulsion
To finish clarifying the doubts, Conmebol revealed this Wednesday the VAR audios, which show how Herrera and those in charge in the cabin, headed by the Argentine Silvio Trucco, ratified the decision initially made on the field.
Herrera is one of Conmebol's trusted referees and is one of the judges with the most appearances so far in the Copa Libertadores.
This Tuesday in El Campín was his third meeting in this edition, after directing the match between Nacional de Paraguay and Atlético Nacional, on February 21, and Nacional de Montevideo vs. Always Ready, March 21.
