The tour of the outgoing and elected presidents, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, scheduled for tomorrow Friday to supervise the new Specialty Hospital, was suspended due to the organizers.
Yesterday afternoon, Sheinbaum Pardo’s team announced the suspension of the presidential tour “until further notice,” while the General Directorate of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) stated that it would take place, but privately.
At the time of going to press, the Presidency of the Republic had not made any statement.
A few hours earlier, from the Artificial Intelligence Center, located a few steps from the new hospital headquarters, representatives of the IMSS presented the details of the start-up of the so-called Regional General Hospital number 2, ensuring that everything is ready to put it into operation, in a first of five stages, starting on Monday, August 12.
“We will have the services ready by the 9th (of August),” said the director of Administration of the institute, Borsalino González Andrade, specifying that it will be from the first working day following that areas such as outpatient consultation, general surgery specialties, cardiology, dermatology, gynecology and pediatrics, in addition to pharmacy, laboratory, archives and care for the beneficiary will be put into operation.
The schedule released yesterday establishes that by August 30, at least 38 of the 67 beds in the emergency area will be available, while by September 10, rooms such as postoperative recovery, operating room, sterilization, surgery and outpatient recovery will be operational.
By September 30, González Andrade said, the entire hospital will be working, from intensive care, pediatrics, the burn unit and hemodialysis.
“Although it is a complex issue, we are trying to get the entire hospital up and running as quickly and orderly as possible,” he said during a press conference.
At the event, the public servant thanked Governor María Eugenia Campos and all the state government agencies, “who have participated with great effort and commitment.”
He explained that the hospital will have 260 census beds, but there will be another 300 non-census beds, which will allow for outpatient services.
He specified that the hospital was built on a 75,000 square meter lot, with 46,000 square meters of construction, and that it will have 1,371 medicine codes, estimating that for the operation of the hospital, the pharmacy will represent an acquisition of three million pieces per year, with an investment of 371 million pesos.
The HGR will also have 2,742 workers, of which 513 are specialist doctors who will mainly generate consultations. In this universe, there will also be 1,153 nurses, and 1,076 workers for administrative and paramedical processes.
He quantified an impact in favor of 432 thousand beneficiaries who will benefit from the referral of Family Medicine Units 43, 45, 50, 54 and 56, and those of Casas Grandes and Nuevo Casas Grandes.
It was detailed that it will also have 34 medical specialties, among which some third level ones stand out, such as haemodynamics, cardiology, genetics, paediatrics, neurology, orthopaedics and traumatology, medical and surgical oncology; as well as 21 care services.
It was also announced that by August 9, 127 positions will be filled, of which 23 are specialist doctors, 22 are management staff and 82 are from other categories.
It is planned to have 230 additional positions by the end of the month: 30 for specialist doctors and 200 for other categories. In the end, coverage should reach 2,742 positions, which is what is projected for this hospital unit.
Regarding equipment, it was reported that it will have 861 pieces of equipment, some of high impact that support the safety of hospitalized patients, such as magnetic resonance imaging, 64-slice CT, digital mammography with stereotaxy, manoplanar angiograph, digital radiology and fluoroscopic unit with remote control, ultrasonic aspirator, ultrasound, orthopantomograph, sterilizers, surgical laser, portable radiology units, advanced surgical tables, among others.
