The day of the Williams in Baku it did not start in the best way: ready go and immediately stop & go ten seconds, the fault of Nicholas Latifi’s too advanced positioning on the starting grid and the consequent intervention of a mechanic who moved the Canadian’s FW44 inside the pitch. For the latter, the race was therefore all uphill. The same cannot be said for Alexander Albon, who closed the Grand Prix in 12th place, taking advantage of the retirements and misfortunes of others. The Thai, however, may complain about the timing of the Virtual Safety Car, which allowed Valtteri Bottas to maintain 11th position.
These are the words of the Red Bull school driver at the end of the race: “It was a fun race! We were a bit unlucky with the timing of the Virtual Safety Car, otherwise we would have been in a better position to fight for points today, but once again our race pace was really good. If you look at our pace compared to the other teams in the scrum pack, it was very satisfying; we were as fast, if not faster, than many of the cars ahead of us. We made a good start, optimized our potential and performed well“.
“It is a pity that the penalty has thwarted everything before even leaving. I believe that there should be some leniency regarding the infringement, since I was only backward and nothing was changed to the car. It was hard to be that far from the group, then there was the cycle of blue flags and I was joined by the leaders very early on“Added Latifi. “The race was very long and lonely. We were able to do more kilometers and laps with the car, but overall it was a difficult weekend on this track. A day to forgetbut I’m excited to go to Canada right away for my first home race“.
