The center downplays the incident and defends that the dishes were removed immediately, while the catering company did not want to clarify the facts
The appearance of small worms in some soup dishes with noodles that were served on Wednesday in the dining room of the Mirasierra school in Torreagüera unleashed complaints from parents, annoyed by the incident. It is not the first time that weevil larvae have been found in a school cafeteria, an insect that attacks all types of cereals and is caused by poor preservation of the grain in the soup. Already boiled larvae would not pose any health hazard when dead.
The school menu of the concerted educational center, which provides daily dining service to about 150 students, is in charge of Mediterránea de Catering. The company did not want to make a statement, and assured that it is analyzing the facts.
According to school sources, a soup with noodles was served to some students at lunch on Wednesday. The dish had been prepared in three different pots, and in only a dozen of the rations from one of them, the schoolchildren found larvae and notified their teachers and canteen keepers. “Immediately the dishes were removed and it was found that the pasta was not expired,” explained yesterday one of the school teachers, who explained that the food is made in the center itself. Apparently, and according to the same sources, the problem could be in the preservation of the pasta.
The school verified that the pasta was not expired and apologized to the parents of the students
The center insisted that the soup plates were removed from the dining room tables immediately, and the center’s management met yesterday with the students’ parents to apologize and explain them. The school, insisted the teacher, is satisfied with the ‘catering’ service, and understands that it is an isolated incident.
