Several companies have announced cash donations, logistical support and actions to help the situation in Rio Grande do Sul.
The heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul affected more than two million people and left at least 450 cities with losses. According to a survey by Fiergs (Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul), 94.3% of the state’s economic activity was affected by the floods. It is estimated that losses could reach R$50 billion.

The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) said that the aid measures taken by the entity and its associates (Itaú, Bradesco, Santander Brasil, BTG Pactual, Banco do Brasil and Caixa, Safra, Pine and UBS) to help aid the population of RS already total R$ 126 million.
The amount includes, however, both donations to entities and also initiatives such as easing grace periods and terms in credit offers, with review of rates, suspension of charges and fees, extension of contracts and expansion of credit lines.
Petrobras, the largest company in the country, announced a donation worth R$5.6 million to support the population of Canoas and Esteio. The amount will be allocated to Movimento União BR, through Instituto da Criança, a non-profit organization, for the purchase of essential items. In addition to the cash value, the state-owned company is helping with logistical support, fuel supply and helicopter and boat rentals.
TIM Brasil and Telefônica Brasil granted bonus gigabytes to customers. Ambev modified a beer factory to bottle drinking water to donate.
Large companies in RS have also announced support measures. Tramontina, for example, has already helped with 65 tons of donations and 130 thousand liters of water, in addition to more than 40 thousand tools to help with cleaning and plastic furniture for reception points and shelters for the homeless. Gerdau has mobilized shipments of drinking water and helicopters to support logistics and food deliveries.
Help has also come from abroad. Pope Francis decided to donate around 100 thousand euros (approximately R$ 556 thousand, through the Apostolic Nunciature of which the Holy Father, to help the homeless. Apple’s executive president, Tim Cook, stated that the technology giant “will do donations to help efforts on site”, without revealing values.
Dozens of companies also joined the campaign created by the Rio Grande do Sul website Vakinha, which has already raised more than R$70 million in donations.
Through the SOS Rio Grande do Sul website, Civil Defense provided information about which locations in the state are receiving donations and what items are being received in each of them.
Cash donations can be made through SOS Rio Grande do Sul, from Banrisul bank, maintained by the government of Rio Grande do Sul. The Pix key is the National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) number 92.958.800/0001-38. On Monday, the 13th, governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) announced that Each family affected by the tragedy will be entitled to R$2,000 paid in a single installment.
