Racist behavior in local matches should stop immediately. Maybe the hogwash will be cleaned up only with the help of sanctions. Unfortunately, the idiocy of some often affects a larger group, writes HS sports reporter Ari Virtanen.
Hongan and the local struggle between HJK again got a nasty aftertaste from the supporters’ racism.
On Thursday, twelve minutes before the end of the actual playing time of the match, FC Honga’s winger Edmund Arko-Mensah walked to the interchange and allegedly heard racist shouts from the crowd of HJK supporters.
Referee Mohamed El-Amara stopped the match and told the captains that the supporters were shouting racist chants. El-Amara made the only correct decision and warned the crowd that the match could be decided in the middle.
“Honga’s background person, a physiotherapist, informed us after he had walked with Arko-Mensah near the HJK bench that he had heard some monkey noises from the supporters. None of the referees heard it,” Mohamed El-Amara told HS after the match.
According to HS’s information, no racist shouts have been heard in the HJK supporter’s stand.
If this time racism was suspiciously present among HJK’s supporters, so last time the same thing happened among Honga’s supporters.
Then there were racist shouts Perparim Hetemaj, on which the supporter of the home team threw the liquids of his drinking mug. Hetemaj was also shouted at, referring to his origin in Kosovo.
According to the Finnish Football Association’s rules, such shouting fulfills the signs of racist behavior. Honga was fined 700 euros for that previous match. There will be more fines for Thursday’s match.
Racist behavior in local matches should stop immediately. Maybe the confusion will calm down and the sleaze will be cleaned up only with the help of sanctions – hopefully. As a result of the sanctions, the idiocy of some often suffers, unfortunately, for a much larger group.
