Ciudad Juarez.- On September 28 and 29, a comic book convention will be held in this city. It will be a free event to which the border community has been invited.
It will take place at the S-Mart Civic Center, located on Ejército Nacional and General Monteverde Avenues, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., said the general coordinator of Con-Front, Cuauhtémoc Guerrero.
He said that there will be people who create comics, manga, illustrators, art toys; there will also be cosplay catwalks, workshops and food areas, as well as special guests who are dedicated to some of these areas.
“Cartoonists from the United States, Mexico, Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua are coming, including Trino Camacho, known for ‘Rey Chiquito’, ‘El Santos y la Voluptuosa Mendoza’, and Vania Vachur, in addition to the presence of the International Book Fair and the Fondo de Lectura Económica,” he said.
Guerrero said Con-Front has been around since 2003 and was active until 2008, and although they had a 16-year break, they are now back with this event.
“The Con-Front arose from the community’s need to produce comics. With a small group of 16 exhibitors, today we are more than 50 at the local, state and national level,” he said.
For her part, Paloma Galaviz, deputy director of Fondo Transborder, stressed that Fondo Comunity seeks to support situations and events that concern neglected communities.
The idea behind the fund is to support artistic practices with fundraisers, transportation payments and talks with social impact, he said.
“Comics need to be attended to, observed and appreciated, since there is a community of artists who will benefit from this event with connections and the exploration of new proposals,” she added. (Araly Castañón)
