Column | Not all dreams have to come true

It would be good for everyone to know how to dream the unbelievable, because it makes life easier. In those moments, a person is free from performance pressure, because not all dreams are meant to come true.

We were on a walk, me and one of my loved ones.

We frolicked in the bitter autumn weather near the beautiful beach plots. The maples veiled by rust were crazy in the large yards of the villas.

“A house like that would be wonderful. I would invite all my friends over for brunch on Sundays,” I said.

“You could earn quite a lot to ever be able to afford that house,” said my companion.

And I felt like taking a piss from standing there.

Similar ones there have been other situations. What they have in common is that my interlocutor has not understood what I am driving behind in my dreams. He may have thought that I should be brought back to earth, reminds of realities. So that I wouldn’t dream too much and be disappointed.

Understand that. In this time, it is customary to carry out daydreaming. The self-help guides tell you how to condense your wild dreams into concrete goals, for the realization of which a precise plan is made. Finally, the Linkedin service praises how the dreams really came true after a lot of effort.

But I didn’t really intend to find a house by the lake. Just for fun, I wanted to imagine what it would be like to live in that locale. How we would laugh in the cozy living room with my friends, glasses of schmapp in hand.

Human life it’s richer when you can build crazy imaginations. I call it into a dizzying reverie.

It is the art of spontaneously imagining glimpses of alternative realities, and thus breaking free for a moment from the yoke of everyday realities.

When you dream, you are free from performance pressure.

Among children, this kind of activity is called a word play. Children mainly play because it is fun for them. They don’t plan how to visualize play as a dream map. They spend their time in their imaginations and then move on to eating carrot cakes at the dining table.

Dreaming makes life easier. Maybe even happier. In those moments, you are free from performance pressure, because the imaginations are not meant to come true. It’s about play, fantasy.

And on the other hand: it’s probably the case that a significant part of great inventions and capitalist success stories got their start precisely when someone dared to dream the unbelievable – just for fun.

Although worldly success should not be the goal of dreaming, let it be a byproduct.
