The couple made up of Jack Sock and Rajeev Ram, took advantage of Robert Farah’s absence due to physical discomfort to give the United States victory in the doubles match against Juan Sebastián Cabal and Nicolás Barrientos, to ensure the final victory in the duel against Colombia, in the fight for a place in the Davis Cup finals. The series is 3-0.
Sock and Ram prevailed 6-3, 6-4, in a game in which the Americans broke the Colombian pair twice in the first set to win it with relative ease.
Then, in the first game of the second set there was a new break for the locals, who kept until the end to define the game and, incidentally, the series against the Colombians.
Cabal and Barrientos resisted in the ninth game to avoid a new break, but they could not straighten the way.
On Friday, Colombia had lost both individual games. The United States went on top with wins for Sebastian Korda against Nicolás Mejía and for Taylor Fritz against Alejandro González.
Korda struggled to beat Mejía, his former doubles partner in the youth category, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in two hours and one minute of play before his audience in Reno (Nevada).
In the second turn. Fritz, number 20 in the ATP, defeated González, number 453, by a convincing 6-1 and 6-0, in just 53 minutes of play at the Reno Events Center.
Colombia will have to play a new duel for permanence in September, against a rival to be defined.
News in development.
