The group stage of the U-20 Women’s World Cup is over and Colombia already has an opponent for the round of 16, which will begin on Wednesday. The team coached by Carlos Paniagua will face South Korea that day, at 8 p.m., at the Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali.
According to the criteria of
South Korea qualified as third in Group D but pulled off a surprise 1-0 win over Germany in Techo on Saturday to secure their place in the next round. Before that game, they had lost 1-0 to Nigeria and then drawn 0-0 with Venezuela.
If they win, Colombia will play the quarterfinals against the winner of the match between France and the Netherlands, who will face each other on Thursday at 8 pm at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellín.
This Sunday, at the end of the group stage, Argentina qualified for the first time to the round of 16, also as one of the best third-placed teams, by beating Costa Rica 1-0 at Techo. In the same group, F, North Korea qualified in first place by beating the Netherlands 2-0 at Pascual Guerrero, which also qualified.
In Group E, Japan beat Austria 2-0 in Techo to secure first place. The Europeans had already qualified. Ghana saved their honour and bowed out by beating New Zealand 3-1.
