A display by the Portuguese Air Force’s aerobatic flight team ended with the tragic collision between two planes. One pilot died and at least one other was injured. The accident occurred this afternoon in the city of Beja, during the Beja air show aerobatic flying festival. According to Portuguese state TV (RTP), one plane crashed and two had to make an emergency landing. The festival was interrupted and the Beja airbase evacuated. On its X profile, the Portuguesa Air Force asked not to spread images of the accident “out of respect for the people involved”.
At the moment there is no official confirmation on the victims. «The Air Force regrets to announce that at 16.05, during the Beja AirShow, two aircraft were involved in an accident during an air demonstration. We have emergency services on site, in accordance with the safety plan established and immediately activated,” the Air Force said on social networks.
