Neither by land, nor by train and, as a consequence, almost not by air. The effects of DANA in the province of Valencia have left the road and railway network in a practically impractical state, with the A-7 highway impassable due to the collapse of a bridge near Quart de Poblet and the railway network cut off, both in high speed and in Cercanías, which have borne the brunt.
This Thursday, the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, made a first assessment of the situation regarding these infrastructures and pointed out that For “two or more weeks” it will not be possible to recover some normality, and “much longer” in the case of the Cercanías network.. “Mobility is not that it is not possible, it is that at this moment it is totally inadvisable,” he warned.
The road network and railway infrastructure have been the most affected, which, in turn, makes access to ports and airports difficult, which although their situation is not usual, do not register “major incidents” and their activity is more affected. due to the difficulties in getting goods and people to them.
As for the roads, Puente explained “they are all seriously damaged.” Traffic on the A-7 is interrupted, mainly due to the “black spot”, the viaduct at the height of Quart de Poblet bypass south area that has “collapsed” and whose “definitive replacement will take months.”
This does not mean that until then the A-7 will be closed because it will be reopened when possible, but for now the circulation on this road, which is very busy and through which in normal situations 100,000 vehicles pass a day, will be closed. will detour along the V-30 and V-31, where the situation is “very complicated”, due to the “serious damage” they have also suffered and because they will now have to assume circulation on the A-7.
“It is going to be an area in which you will be able to circulate with enormous limitations,” said Puente, who has reiterated the message that now is not the time to take the car, except for “essential” issues, at this time, linked to the “priority” tasks that are “removing cars” or “searching for people”.
“Some people are taking their cars and trying to get to Valencia on these roads. What we recommend is that, please, do not do it,” asked the minister, who said that now these roads “are there to carry out tasks.” essential, rescue vehicles, search for people who may be in that area and establish the situation of the infrastructure. “Any mobility that is not strictly necessary is inadvisable,” he insisted.
