Mexico.- The National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH), called on the federal and state authorities to establish a mechanism of accompaniment actions for children and adolescents who have been victims of violations of their rights through online video games, as well as to be able to alert them about their dangers.
The foregoing after the CNDH obtained knowledge about cases of disappearance related to the use of video games and in particular the one known as freefire, through which girls and adolescents between 13 and 17 years old have been hooked by criminals to leave their homes and become victims of disappearance or sexual abuse.
The CNDH recalled that through Program for the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescentsit is an obligation to ensure the best interests of minors, as well as their access to a dignified life, their safety and justice.
For this reason, the CNDH has requested that, under the scope and in its respective powers in relation to the General Law on the Rights of Children and Adolescents, that, urgently, linked and in its capacity as guarantor, authorities implement the necessary actions to ensure for the security and physical and psychological integrity of these populations and a care and protection plan is drawn up considering their autonomy and needs.
Likewise, the CNDH calls for the development of public policies and actions aimed at children and adolescents who are victims of forced disappearance and other crimes, through the use of online video games to provide timely and effective intervention.
