The season of Group A, dedicated to Italy, of the Clio Cup Europe ended in Monza with the victory in Race 2 of Felice Jelmini (PMA Motorsport). A success also obtained in Race 1 but vanished due to a penalty at the end of the race that had made him slide to third position assigning the victory to Nicolas Milan (Milan Competition). To celebrate the 2021 title of Group A is the French Marc Guillot, of the Milan Competition, who only needed to manage the advantage with which he presented himself at Monza to win the victory.
After Jelmini had obtained both pole positions, the Saturday race saw the victory of Milan, followed on the overall podium by David Pouget (GPA Racing) and Jelmini, who despite the penalty still celebrated the success in Group A together with Gustavo Sandrucci (Progetto E20 Motorsport) and Gabriele Torelli (Faro Racing).
In Sunday’s race, on the other hand, on the podium of the Clio Cup Europe, together with Jelmini, again Milan and Filippo Berto (Oregon Team) climbed. The latter also obtained second place in Group A behind Jelmini and ahead of Guillot.
Both races were affected by the weather, with the rain arriving at the start of Race 1, while all the riders were wearing the Michelin slick; instead, the second race was immediately reported as a “wet race” due to the slippery asphalt and the uncertain weather: the majority of the riders – with a few exceptions – opted for rain tires, which however did not pay as an alternative choice.
In the Challengers classification double victory for Berto, who in Race 1 preceded Lorenzo Nicoli (Progetto E20 Motorsport) and Yeraly Ospanov (Carpek Service), while in the second race he got the better of Giacomo Trebbi (PMA Motorsport) and William Mezzetti (Progetto E20) Motorsport).
In the Gentlemen Drivers Cup victory of Pietro Bacchi (PMA Motorsport) in Race 1 ahead of Quinto Stefana (Oregon Team) and Vittorio Zadotti (Scuderia Costa Ovest), while Race 2 saw Andrea Argenti (SI Racing Team) win over Alessandro Sebasti Scalera ( Milan Competition) and Bacchi.
Guillot is therefore the 2021 Champion of the Clio Cup Europe Group A, ahead of team mate Anthony Jurado and Gabriele Torelli (Faro Racing). Berto wins the Challengers title ahead of Alessio Alcidi (CAAL Racing) and Lorenzo Nicoli (Progetto E20 Motorsport), while Sebasti Scalera is the Gentlemen Drivers Cup champion on Quinto Stefana and “Due”, both of the Oregon Team.
Last appointment also for the Press League, reserved for journalists: in Monza Lorenzo Peiroleri, for Askanews, and Stefano Bargiggia, of RCS Style, alternated at the wheel of the Clio # 333, discovering the difficulties but also the fun of a race that saw 47 Clio Cups at the start.
The Clio Cup Europe will conclude the 2021 season at the Barcelona circuit on 12-14 November.
