He climate outlook for this Thursday, May 30 presents extreme weather conditions in various regions of Mexico, according to the forecast of the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua). The third heat wave continues its dominance, and the probability of tornadoes in certain states puts the population on alert.
Heat Wave: Impact and Recommendations
The intense heat wave will affect a large part of the country, with maximum temperatures that will exceed 45 °C in Sinaloa, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Morelos, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco and Campeche.
In this sense, regions such as Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato, Querétaro (north), Hidalgo (north), Puebla (north and southwest), Yucatán and Quintana Roo ., will experience temperatures between 40 and 45 °C. Even the southwest of the State of Mexico and Mexico City will register temperatures between 35 and 40°C, while in Aguascalientes it will not exceed 35°C.
Given these conditions, the population is urged to take preventive measures: avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and pay special attention to children, older adults and people with chronic diseases. Coordination with the health sector and Civil Protection is crucial to mitigate adverse effects.
Tornado and strong wind warning
The combination of low pressure channels, a dry line, instability at high levels of the atmosphere and entry of humidity from both coastlines, will generate conditions ripe for tornadoes and strong winds. Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas could face wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h, with possible formation of tornadoes. Additionally, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Michoacán, Hidalgo, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Tlaxcala and Puebla.
Dust devils and intense winds will also affect Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Jalisco and Querétaro, with gusts of 50 to 70 km/h. Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Guerrero, Morelos, Oaxaca and Chiapas will see winds of 40 to 60 km/h with possible dust devils, while Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatán will have gusts of 40 to 60 km/h.
Rain Forecast
Precipitation will also be present. Heavy rains (25 to 50 mm) are expected in Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Hidalgo and Chiapas. Showers (5 to 25 mm) in Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, Durango, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Morelos, Guerrero and Oaxaca, and isolated rains (0.1 to 5 mm) in Nayarit, Colima, Veracruz, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo .
The rains could be accompanied by electric shocks and hail, which increases the risk of damage to the impacted areas.
