The founder and reference of the Morena party, Claudia Sheinbaumwhich won at the polls last Sunday, June 2, with more than 50 percent of the votes, will insist on the United States and Canada establishing legal immigration channels.
The proposals of the candidate from Let’s Keep Making History, a space that brings together Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), were chosen by the majority of citizens with a wide margin over her rivals. Among these points, which include a strategy to combat drug trafficking violence, highlights the measure that will seek to implement regarding the illegal immigration of undocumented citizens towards US territory.
In that sense, the next president announced in her campaign that will invest in the regions where the majority of illegal immigrants come from. “That will be and will continue to be our position, which is cooperation for development. That there is support for Mexico, but mainly for Central America and other countries where there is migration to reach the United States“, he noted in speeches, according to the media cnn.
Likewise, considering the support of the Mexican government to the areas from which the majority of immigrant citizens come, Sheinbaum maintained that “The United States can support much more“, and questioned the implementation of the wall.”It will be much cheaper than building the wallmuch more economical than any other form of border patrols, and also addresses the underlying issue,” he noted.
The strategy that Sheinbaum will seek to implement with migrants
The strategy of supporting the countries from which The majority of immigrants come from, continues along the line executed by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), which brought its social programs to countries like El Salvador.
In the document “100 steps for transformation”, cited by the aforementioned medium, Sheinbaum assures that the authorities “will protect and defend the rights of countrymen” who work in the United States. “There will always be good will for coordination, but it is up to us to also demand respect for our sovereignty, for the Mexicans on both sides of the border. Coordination yes, subordination no. We will never bow our heads,” she said.
In this way, the next president will try to promote investments that respect labor rights and provide for fair and decent jobs and wageswithout generating disruptive effects in the communities where foreign citizens settle.
