The popular denounce a rebound in assaults and robberies and the government team denies it
Citizen security in Lorca faced the PP and the government team, from the PSOE and Cs coalition, on Monday, after the opposition group has reported new robberies in homes in the districts and in the Los Peñones industrial estate in recent days.
Councilwoman Belén Pérez explained that last Friday there were robberies in two houses in Tercia that were robbed and another that was frustrated. She also referred to new robberies in companies in the Los Peñones industrial estate, where there were also assaults last week. On this occasion, Pérez reported the theft of a truck loaded with materials in the Los Peñones industrial estate, which was later found empty, and another case in which the thieves made a butrón in the wall of one company to gain access to another.
According to Pérez, Lorca “suffers the worst crime rate in its history” since 50 crimes are committed every week and called for the “immediate dismissal” of the Councilor for Security, José Luis Ruiz, because “he is incapable of managing this area and his measures They have only made the situation worse.”
The PP spokesman, Fulgencio Gil, said that his party proposes increasing the number of Local Police personnel to reach 160 agents, 36 more than there are currently and the installation of 150 video surveillance cameras in the streets, in addition to the six that remained installed on Juan Carlos I avenue during his time as mayor, but that never came to work.
The Councilor for Security, José Luis Ruiz, denied the increase in PP robberies and assured that the Civil Guard only knows that in the last 14 days there has been a completed robbery and another frustrated in districts. He explained that since 2007 the staff of the Local Police has gone from having 143 to 124 agents and expressed his commitment to call for new positions.
The mayor confirmed that his department has requested a budget for the installation of 21 video surveillance cameras “in the most conflictive points”, which would cost 50,000 euros and which would include the six that are already installed on Juan Carlos I avenue .
