The leak to WikiLeaks, known as “Vault 7” and distributed in installments, began on March 7, 2018 and the organization founded by the Australian Julian Assange considered it “the biggest leak of intelligence data in history”.
A week after that first disclosure, the authorities searched Schulte’s apartment in Manhattan (New York) under a warrant that considered him suspected of “distributing national defense information”, and the agents told the Justice that they had taken those documents and some electronic devices.
In early July, Assange submitted to the High Court in London a request to appeal his extradition to the United States, which requires him to try him for crimes of espionage.
The 51-year-old activist remains in Belmarsh maximum security prison in London while his appeal against his surrender to Washington is resolved.
On June 17, the British Minister of the Interior, Priti Patel, signed the order to extradite the Australian journalist to the United States, which requires him on charges of espionage.
Weeks earlier, on April 20, a British court judge had issued a delivery order to the US Justice for consideration by the United Kingdom Government.
The United States demands Assange to prosecute him for 18 crimes of espionage and computer intrusion for the revelations of his portal which, according to his legal team, can mean up to 175 years in prison in that country.
