Chinese GP, Alonso always solid
“I'll have to run on defense“, Fernando had said Alonso Yesterday. And in fact in the first part of the Chinese Grand Prix the two-time world champion resisted as best he could the attacks of the fastest cars coming from behind, setting up a race in the trenches before the Safety Car and the attack in the second, when the safety car forced him to make a double pit stop (first to put on the soft and then the medium). Alonso, in fact, didn't have hard tyres, but this at least allowed him to have fun in the second half, finishing seventh and also getting the fastest lap.
Alonso's words
“Today we didn't have the right pace and it was a difficult race, with many things that have happened. Despite this, it was important to get some points with the fastest lap“, this was his comment after the race.
“We made a good start and moved into second place, and for a moment I thought it would be nice to lead the race for a lap, but we couldn't do that.“, he continued. “TOSome Safety Cars have changed the strategy a bit. We no longer had hard tires available, which is why we switched to the soft compound. Overall, it was a good race, but we have some work to do to improve our pace on Sunday and to match what we managed to do in qualifying“.
