Three Germans are said to have passed on information to the Chinese secret service. Beijing rejects the accusation through its embassy in Berlin – and has one demand.
Berlin – After the arrest of three Germans on suspicion of espionage, the Chinese embassy in Berlin defended itself against allegations that China was allegedly spying in the Federal Republic.
The Chinese side firmly rejects this, China's official news agency Xinhua reported last night, citing the diplomatic mission. “We call on the German side to stop exploiting the espionage accusation to politically manipulate the image of China and defame China.”
The Federal Prosecutor's Office had previously had three Germans arrested on suspicion of espionage. The two men and a woman are said to have obtained information about military technology in Germany in order to pass it on to the Chinese secret service. At the time of the arrests, the accused were in negotiations about research projects that could be particularly useful for expanding China's maritime combat power. dpa
