Skywell, Seres, DFSK… These car brands unknown to the general public will soon be sold to Finns.
To Finland there are 3-4 Chinese car brands coming at a fast pace.
The brands are Skywell, Seres, DFSK and a fourth one, whose name has not yet been revealed.
“We will have cars in the price range of 20,000–80,000 euros within a year,” says the CEO of car importer Novus Cars Finland Juha Rusama.
The first-timers are electric SUVs, but the repertoire is supplemented with hybrids.
“The Chinese brands initially want to offer the finest cars, but in Finland the most basic small cars are sold. We are waiting for their arrival.”
The brands could be reduced like this: Seres is the most expensive, Skywell is mid-priced and DFSK is the cheapest.
The models are enough for drivers to figure out, as each has its own numbering system. For example, in the light of current information, there are at least five different cars coming to Sereksi.
Novus Cars was founded last year, the parent company is registered in Tallinn. It brings Chinese cars to Finland, Sweden and the Baltics.
Rusama is responsible for the Finland branch. He is the former CEO of Autoverkkokauppa.fi, now Auto Bassadonen.
A retail and service network is being built in Paraika.
“The reason why it has been a success is that we build networks in peace. When the background is in order, we can say that now you can get these,” says Rusama.
“It's pointless to start hype if there's nothing to answer.”
The maintenance side is already a long way off, resale is still being regulated. The company is also preparing to start its own retail sales.
The new ones the brands are second wave Chinese. Last year, Byd, MG, Voyah and Hongqi appeared in Finland. How do you fit in here?
“This year is miserable in the car trade, but when we go up from here, it's different brands than before that will rise.”
Rusanen does not believe that popular favorites such as Toyota or Škoda will collapse, but the situation offers the Chinese an opportunity to gobble up market shares.
“
“It's a bit like trying to bundle German marks.”
In addition, the Chinese want to expand, so car brands are being dealt to those who play their cards quickly. According to Rusanen, the second owner of Novus Cars has a history in the telecommunications industry, and through that the company has networks in China. The cards were put on the table through contacts.
“I understand that Chinese brands are being pulled together, but it's a bit like trying to bundle German brands.”
He admits that initially he didn't like the image of Chinese cars as “very expensive”.
“When I got to drive a few brands myself, they stand up to comparison.”
Last in the sales numbers of the Chinese first wave of the year, there were talks of hundreds of cars at their highest. It sold the best path priced MGwhose cars came to Finland according to the calculations of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency about 900 pieces.
129 cars of the largest Chinese company, BYD, were first registered last year. This spring, sales picked up, as license plates have been screwed onto 154 cars in three months.
The challengers are far from the market leader From Toyota. It has sold thousands of new cars in the first quarter and achieved a 20.5 percent market share.
Chinese cars however, the position is already beginning to be seen in Europe. Driving the sustainable development of traffic The T&E organization calculates, that Chinese brands can capture a fifth of the Union market by 2027. Last year, the share was just under eight percent.
The EU is currently investigating whether Chinese electric cars receive subsidies that distort competition. As a result, it is possible that punitive duties will be imposed on cars. They could come true in June at the earliest.
The next move for the Chinese is the factories that are going up inside the Union. BYD does factory to Hungaryand a company called Chery revives a closed car factory in Spain.
Seres there have been whispers about the return to Finland for a long time, but now with the opening of the door there will be a couple of other signs. Rusama estimates that the time window for the introduction of new brands in the automotive industry is getting closer.
“We are no longer talking about years, but months.”
Or in the case of the importer, days.
“The first ones [myyntiin tulevat] the cars arrived in Finland on Friday, and they are currently in the customs process.”
