This Saturday, April 27, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, decreed a curfew in three communes in the province of Arauco, after the murder of three police officers became known. “I have instructed to decree a curfew in the communes of Cañete, Contulmo and Tirúa between 00:00 and 7:00 hrs. In addition, the police and military presence will be reinforced to our maximum capacity through joint patrols in the area. The president assured that he made the decision after speaking with the director of Carabineros and the commanders of the different law enforcement forces in Chile. A measure that he decreed after the murder of three police officers in the Biobío region became known.
The police officers were found dead inside a car in the early hours of April 27. Official reports describe that the perpetrators of the crime opened fire on the patrol car, where the police officers were, before setting fire to the unit with the officers inside.
The deceased were identified as Carlos Sisterna Navarro, Sergio Arévalo Lobos and Misael Vidal Cid.

Earlier, Boric had declared national mourning for the events. Furthermore, he promised “that there will be no impunity” and that they will find “the whereabouts of the authors of this terrible crime.”

The head of the police institution, General Ricardo Yáñez, regretted the death of the three agents, stating that the Chilean security body will undertake all efforts to find those responsible for the cruel murder. Yáñez announced the suspension of the commemorative event for the anniversary of the Carabineros Corps.
Once again, our month of April, our anniversary, is stained by blood, by those who do not hesitate to murder those who care for us. We are hurt, deeply saddened by this, and we convey our condolences to their families and co-workers, said Yáñez.
Furthermore, the head of the Chilean police force pointed out that the murder of the police officers was not “something casual” or “random,” pointing out that the attack was orchestrated to affect the commemoration of the institution's anniversary.
