Children “Why is everyone else allowed to be outside until two in the morning?” Mira Lecklin decided to find out what time of arrival the other children really have

The discussion about the times of returning home started in the Kotka Puskaradio group on Facebook after it was woken up in Kotka that children up to the age of 10 have been found drinking themselves on the corners of the Pasaat Shopping Center.

Why all other children always be outside for longer?

This is certainly a phrase that many parents hear from their children’s mouths when there is a discussion at home about children’s home arrival times.

In Kotka, however, the children’s arrival times rose to a discussion in a concrete sad way, when children up to the age of 10 were repeatedly found drunk in the evenings drunk, for example, from the corners of the Pasaat Shopping Center.

Family Center Coordinator in charge of the family center Mari Nieminen raised the issue on his Facebook wall. He also reported on the matter Kymen Sanomat.

About the phenomenon the family mother from Kotka was also concerned Mira Lecklinwho decided, on the basis of an article by Kymen Sanomat and a publication by Nieminen, to find out in the Puskaradio Kotka group on Facebook what kind of home time parents in Kotka set for their school-age children.

“I did expect an even bigger flow of responses and a more intense discussion. I thought that my own gang would come there to say their hard opinions about things, ”Lecklin says.

Although Lecklin expected even stronger turns and sharper angles from the conversation, the children’s return times clearly spoke to the Eagles, as Lecklin’s question received more than 100 responses in the group.

What about what kind of results did Lecklin’s question then son?

Most reported that the arrival time of their school-age children was between 7 and 9 p.m. Homecoming times also shifted to the older school-age children in the respondents.

But if school-age children usually arrive at their homes before nine, how can it be possible for school-age children to be found in a drunken city in the evenings?

An answer to this was also found in the Facebook group discussion, when one of the respondents wondered how only parents of kind children in the group would shout.

Lecklin shares the same ideas.

“It seems to me that only those who are in some way in charge are responding there. People don’t go there to tell me that my child is completely unkind. ”

Several reactions and follow-up comments in the group were also elicited by a debater who recalled the good old days, noting that his own daughters did not come home until four in the 1990s, but they still became pretty decent citizens.

The interlocutor did not understand the concern for the celebration of today’s young people, but considers it a hypocritical pretense, because the current parents themselves were not smarter at a young age.

Lecklin leaves such comments to his own devices.

“I also don’t expect to be waiting right there until the age of eighteen before tasting alcohol for the first time, but now it’s about ten-year-olds,” Lecklin says.

In the conversation, porridges and brothers seem to get confused at times, with some of the talkers talking about primary school children and some talking about teenagers already approaching adulthood.

But can any conclusions be drawn from the debate? What is the right time to return home for a school-age child?

One interlocutor summed it up as follows:

“I think children definitely have to have boundaries, but if they cause constant rift and anger, then they won’t do their thing. Reasonable agreements made together go much further. ”

“Every child is unique and needs their own boundaries. Also learn to trust your child. They’re not always doing nonsense, even if they’re out a little later. We adults have power over the child, but we need to know how to use it properly and with love. ”

This is also the case with Leckl’s own 8- and 11-year-old children.

“Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand.”
