Daily Mail: a Chihuahua in the Canary Islands infected its owner with dangerous bacteria
In the Canary Islands, Spain, a Chihuahua almost killed its owner by licking him. About it reports Daily Mail.
A 71-year-old man suddenly developed strange symptoms: diarrhea and high fever. A week later, he began to choke and cough up yellow mucus. After this he had to see a doctor. During the examination, a darkening in his right lung was noticed on his x-ray. The patient was diagnosed with pneumonia complicated by septic shock.
Blood tests showed that the cause was infection with the dangerous bacterium Pasteurella multocida, which is often carried by pets. It usually enters the body when an infected pet bites or scratches a person. The result, as a rule, is not pneumonia, but inflammation of the soft tissues.

Doctors assumed that the patient contracted the infection from his Chihuahua dog. However, the man stated that the dog did not bite or scratch him. According to doctors, even in this case, there is still a chance of infection: it could occur if the dog licked the owner.
Earlier it was reported that a UK resident contracted a severe infection due to a scratch received while fishing. The woman slipped and fell, causing the nylon fishing line she had in her pocket to become embedded in her leg.
